Gambia
Stretching inland from the coast on West Africa, almost entirely surrounded by neighbouring Senegal, Gambia has an unlikely shape for a country. The capital Banjul is one of the smaller cities in Africa, giving it a pleasantly downbeat feel. Away from the coast, following the course of the Gambia River which runs the length of the country, there are National Parks and wetlands with a superb range of birdlife, and old colonial towns like Georgetown, an old centre of the slave trade. Gambia offers an excellent insight into the traditions and culture of West Africa.
