Tunisia

Tunisia may be small in size compared to its neighbours, but there's no shortage of attractions in this North African country. Superb Roman ruins, the charming island of Djerba and the bizarre cave houses of Matmata, used as a set in Star Wars, all make Tunisia a place where it's easy to pass some time. Tunis seems improbably small for a capital city, with a pleasantly laid-back feel. The south of Tunisia is where the desert proper begins, heading into the Sahara where you can still find nomads or pass a camel train heading slowly south. If you want a Mediterranean holiday with a difference, Tunisia should be high on your list.
