Tim McInnes, a self-confessed passionate world-wanderer, has travelled just about every which way you can: independently backpacking for months on end; taking an overland Dragoman trip last year; going on other, small group adventures before booking his first tailor-made trip with Imaginative Traveller to Burma this year. "Now I'm in my early 30's and have comparatively limited time off, I want to recreate the same kind of experiences I had as a backpacker, but with none of the unforseen obstacles. I remember missing a train when travelling independently through South America, which meant I lost two days of my trip. Two days is a long time when you've only got a two week holiday."
Tim and his travelling companion, Nav, have just returned from a two-week tailor-made trip to Burma and say their experience was outstanding. "The timing of other organised trips didn't work and there were some out-of-the-way places we wanted to visit like the Golden Rock which weren't on other itineraries. So, for the sake of a couple of hundred extra pounds for that extra freedom and flexibility - as well as the services of an English-speaking local guide our own age - we experienced so much more than we could have ever expected." The highlight for Tim was actually deviating from the suggested itinerary to attend an NLD rally which they knew was taking place in Mandalay. Whilst there (blagging their way into the 'Media' section, no less!), they were a mere 30 feet from where Aung San Suu Kyi delivered a half-hour speech to the estimated 200,000 local people attending. Tim and Nav also managed to squeeze in visits to a football match in Yangon's National Stadium (along with 'the other 100 spectators') and check out the now world-famous local comedians, the 'Moustache Brothers' in Mandalay.
The two week tailor made trip to Burma cost £1420 per person.
