Hi, I'm thinking of doing the East Africa in September 2006 (ages away I know, but have to get clearance from work etc etc!). Has anyone done this trip before and, if so, what was it like? I'm going to be travelling on my own so am nervous of (a) being in Africa as a lone female and (b) spending loads of time on my own whilst on the tour. Are these concerns ill founded?? Let me know what you think - good bits and bad...
Thanks, Katy

Re: East Africa Safari
Hello Katty,
Thanks for the posting.
I think travelling alone for anyone particularly in continents that recieve bad press can be a nervous yet thrilling experience.
Whilst on tour with the Imaginative Traveller safety is a priority and really is not something you need worry about and if you do find that you have concerns then simply ask the tour leader who will be happy to help.
Obviously whilst travelling independently though Africa I would suggest that you are street wise and research where you wish to travel prior to your journey.
Enjoy your travels.
Re: East Africa Safari
Hi Katy,
I did the kilimanjaro/Serengeti in September 2005. I did go with another female friend, but I didn't feel as if I would have a problem if I went alone. I have travelled alone many times, including Egypt (with Imag Trav) and never felt alone or threatened in any way. It was easy to make friends with other travellers. I was never alone when I went alone. The Africans are friendly but you do get hassled to buy stuff, but that happens even when your with friends.
FYI: Africa was a bit on the cold side in September, especially at night at the higher altitudes such as the Ngorongoro crater.
