I'd thoroughly recommend Ethiopia - it's a great country with fantastic people. It's not however the easiest place to travel around - bus stations tend to be rather chaotic, to say the least, as the gates remain closed until around twenty minutes before departure, meaning that there's a mad dash to find the bus when they do actually open!

You also have a different clock and calendar to contend with - this can be confusing at times, but once you get to grips with it, it doesn't pose too much of a problem.

The sites themselves are amazing - my favourite probaby being the rock hewn churches at Lalibela. On the nature side, the Simien Mountains are an amazingly beautiful landscape.

English isn't widely spoken, although you can usually find someone who understands a little. It's definitely worth taking a phrasebook.

I'd advise against going in July - it's in the middle of the rainy season. I went in September, towards the end of the season, and heavy downpours were still very common, although they only tended to last for a couple of hours or so.

Ethiopia is one of my favourite destinations - it's like no other country I've been to, and is full of surprises. I hope you have a fantastic time!
