Hi!
As my booked tour (Tribal Lands) was cancelled I had to reschedule it and could not get proper return flights anymore - thus I have to stay 4 extra nights in Windhoek
- I have checked the place Imaginative uses and noticed it is quite outside of Windhoek - is there any transportation to town?, is there anything to do out there?, or is it recommended to rather book a hotel in town?
- any good recommendations on what to do in/around Windhoek for 3 full days
any advice highly appreciated!
thanks,
betina

Re: extra days in Windhoek
Hello Betina!
Thanks for your patience.
Windhoek does not play host to a vast amount of attractions to visit in your extra time. There is no complimentary transport in the town, but I have been advised that Taxi's are approximately 20-40 Namibian Dollars and take about 10-15 minutes. There is a small nature reserve nearby but that is not really sufficient for 4 days.
Your best bet is probably to hire a car and visit the Fish River Canyon for a few days. It is apparently quite easy to get around Namibia. Failing this you could grab a flight to Cape Town and spend a few days there.
Just a few suggestions that I hope help.
All the best,
Robert
Re: extra days in Windhoek
Hey there,
Im off to thailand in june but I went to namibia (not with im.trav.) back in 2003. robtrav is right, there aint much to do in windhoek! however i do recommend you go to Joe's Beerhouse for dinner one night. It's the most amazing place and serves awesome food. e.g. i had a kebab with zebra crocodile kudu ostrich etc etc on! nicest meal ive ever had. (providing ur not veggie!) definatly go and see fish river canyon - theres some terrific views. i did a 5day trek through it and ended at a place called Ai-Ais which has some hot springs and stuff, so that might be worth a visit too.
umm thats all i can think of really. Swakupmond is worth a visit too. its the most 'touristy' part of nam but the sand dunes are awesome and you can go sandboarding which is somethng EVERYONE must experience once in their lifetime! nothing like hurtling head first down a huge dune at 70kph on only a 2cm thick piece of wood!
hope that helps!
Will.

Re: extra days in Windhoek
......Whoops pressed wrong button i think?
....so i was saying, i agree Will, the extra activities in Swakopmund are so much fun but i have to add the Quadbiking to that, its was just the most fun thing i have ever done. And you really feel like you are in the middle of nowhere.
If you are there its a must!
