I am very interested in booking the Kenya to Cape tour but am being put of by Imaginitive Traveller's lack of info about the tour vehicle.
I have seen one pic of it in the brochure but need the following info before making my decision as vehicle details are important to me.
Can anyone answer these?:
1. How old is the vehicle
2. What is the vehicle (make, model etc)
3. How many seats does it have, do they recline, are they forward or inward facing?
4. Does it have glass or tarp windows?
5. What power facilities are there (240v, 12v etc)?
6. What supplies/facilities are on board for cooking, medical, breakdowns, games and entertainment?
7. Does it have a tunnel or intercom to the driver?
8. What is the individual storage space and size (per person)?
9. Is there a safe for valuables (individual or group) and its size?
10. Is there a fridge?
11. Radio, CD, MP3 player?
12. Books?
13. Noticeboard for info on trips etc?
14. What is the tentage and sleeping provision?
15. Does it have a cooking tent for wet weather?
16. Does it have a toilet?
17. Any backup vehicles and/or backup engine etc?
18. Communication equipment?
19. Any viewing cupolai (hatches) and or roof seating?
20. Any seating, tables, lights etc for travellers?

Hope someone can help

Cheers

Re: Vehicle Details needed

Hi Daz

Thanks for your post. I'll answer your points one by one.

1) The vehicles range in age from 1 to 6 years old.
2) Most trucks are Mercedes Benz 1617 trucks; some are Mercedes Benz 1820 trucks and some are MAN 2000 trucks.
3) Most trucks have 20 forward facing seats, some have 22.
4) Windows are made out of glass and can be opened.
5) Onboard the truck we have 12v and 24v, most campsites have 220 or 240v facilities.
6) Trucks carry 200ltrs water, gas stoves, pots, pans, cups, crockery, cutlery, large cooler boxes operated by adding ice.
Medical - there is a basic 1st aid box on board - plasters/antiseptic/bandages etc
Breakdown - all trucks have basic spares on board - fanbelts, starter motors, alternators, oil, coolant, assortment of nuts and bolts and drivers have basic mechanical knowledge.
7) There is a buzzer system for contacting the driver.
8) There's enough storage space for a large backpack in the luggage compartment and a day pack under the seat in the truck.
9) There's a group safe, about 45 cm long x 30 cm wide x 30 cm high
10) There's no fridge, but there is a cool box instead.
11) The trucks don't have radios
12) The trucks don't have books
13) There's a noticeboard for day to day details and reminders
14) The tents are large two man dome tents, and sleeping mats are also provided.
15) There's no cooking tent, but a large tarpaulin can be rigged up fromn the truck to give a covered area.
16) There's no toilet on board.
17) No back up vehicles travel with the truck, but there are back ups in regional bases such as Nairobi, Cape Town, Windhoek and Vic Falls.
18) Drivers have mobile phones and most areas have good coverage.
19) There are forward opening hatches at the front of the vehicle that passengers can stand out of to get better views, but no roof seating - this is not particularly safe.
20) There are lights inside the truck, and lights fitted on the side of the truck to assist when cooking. Camping chairs are on board.

I hope this helps, but if you need any more info, just let us know.
