I'm thinking about going on the Kerala Backwaters trip on 22 Jan - looks great. But no-one is able to tell me the ages of the others booked on the trip. What is the average age of people on IT trips, in your experience? Please be specific as possible and don't give ranges of ages accepted - would like to know what happens in reality! Thanks.

Re: Age profile of travellers

Hi Kathryn,

I've been on a few InTrav trips now and the age range has varied from everyone in their late 20's - early 30's to a much wider early 20's - 50's.

The important thing is that no matter what age the people have been, they have all been like minded in their attitude to travel and everyone has had a laugh. The majority of people will probably be 20's and 30's, but don't let it concern you.

I'm now in my late 30's and obviously in denial of the approaching big 40 and am booked on the Mayan Circle next month.

cheers
Jerry

Hello Kathryn

I'm heading off on a Rajastan Safari tour (complete with camel trek) in November. I'm 55.

I'm 47 and will be on the Pushkar Camel Fair tour this November. Isn't variety the spice of life? Based on the postings I'm reading on the Traveller Forum, it appears these tours attracts travellers rather than tourists. Six weeks and five days to go...

Re: Age profile of travellers

The age ranges vary on each tour but i was not told this before my tour. Apparently older people are generally on the traveller tours and the adventure tour GENERALLY attract people in their 20's and 30's. Because STA travel are promtoing the tours a lot now, the tours are attracting a lot of people in their early 20's especially in university. I was on a traveller tour and most of us were early 20's but there were also 3 people in their 60's, but we all got on and it really did add a better group dynamic.

Re: Age profile of travellers

Hi, Im going on the North India Highlights tour in December and I'm 24. Some friends of mine who are all in their forties did an I-T tour last year and I also know someone who did one when they were 19 so it really is true that there can be a huge age range going on the trips this isn't just a cop out answer the I-T give. Anyway, I'm sure it will add to the dynamic of the group to have people with different interests from all different walks of life on the tour, one of my favourite parts of travelling is that you never know who you will meet!

Re: Age profile of travellers

Hard to get specifics on this one- the Youngest person I've met on an Imtrav tour was 20, I've met at least 3 over 50 (and probably more than that). The majority have been late 20s to mid 30s.
However that is no judgement whatsoever on what the group will be like. Usually the older people in a group are REALLY experienced travellers. Some of them have been everywhere (as in 7 continents, probably 100+ countries).
The more energetic the itinerary the more energetic the group, so don't think that older people in the group will move slower- (but it is irritating when someone 20 years older than you hikes/cycles/climbs/canoes past you with ease)
The groups can have any spread of age and nationality- all you can be sure of is that they all like to travel and aren't couch potatoes...

Sounds like a great mix of ages. But for me its the personalities that matter. I'm 34 and doing the Sri Lanka discovery trip next month.
