We are going on the Annarpuna sanctuary trip in October and the itinery says we need a down jacket. Does this mean a fleece would not be warm enough? If we need a down jacket can anyone provide any recommendations, should it be 2 season or 3 seansons etc. What about trousers, will it be too cold for shorts on the lower parts of trek. What kind of trousers would you recommend??

Thanks for your post. As per the dossier for Annapurna Sanctuary in October, we would strongly recommend that you do take a down jacket. You will be climbing into high altitude mountainous regions, going up to 3,800m at the highest point. Although the days may be warm, at nighttime the temperature drops considerably and it is always better to have more layers to take off, than to be freezing cold and have no more to put on.
As for which season of jacket to take, I would say at least 3/4 season. The specialist at your local trekking/outdoors shop should be able to give you advice about their best product for the conditions you will be in during your tour.
It is probably not a good idea to wear shorts in Nepal. Even if it became warm enough during the day, the Nepali people generally consider it improper for men to wear shorts, so conservative dress tends to make for a warmer reception, especially in remote areas. Long shorts may be acceptable in lower altitudes, but generally trousers are best.
