Can any one give recommendation on what to bring on China Discovery Tour in September- group of us travelling and we want to pack light but wisely!Weather seems to be hot but rainy- so shorts or long trousers, rain coat, fleece????
Also is it really necessary to bring travellers cheques? Are there bank machines along the way to take money out over there or not?
Any help appreciated?

Re: China Discovery
Hi Mo,
Thanks for your questions.
It's best to take a soft-sided bag with a mixture of hot and cold, wet and dry clothes. I know that it not an ideal scenario for packing light but there are plenty of laundry opportunities along the way so you can wash the clothes that you use to cut down on what you take. It will be hot in Hong Kong and gradually get cooler as you make your way towards Beijing.
I didn't take travellers cheques to China myself although they are a good secure way to carry your money overseas. There are banks available throughout where you can exchange cash and travellers cheques and quite a few of them have ATMs, which is a lot easier than the form-filling involved with purchasing RMB in Bank of Chinas.
I hope this helps.

Brendan

Thanks Brendan.
Re: China Discovery
We recently travelled around China on the Yangtze and Southwest tour.
We would recommend that you take a mixture of cash, travellers cheques and your ATM card. Although big cities have ATM's we found our Bank of Ireland card did not work in those we tried.
We changed most of our money at the hotels along the route, it was easy to do and they had they seemed to have the same exchange rate as banks.
Hope you have a great trip we certainly did.
Re: China Discovery
Thanks INEZ.
Hate travellers cheques but from sound of things you think needed so will bring a mixture as you said.
You must be from same part of the world given the bank.
Any other advice for us before we head off?
