Could you give me an idea about how much money I will need for the China Explored trip, and the best way to carry it (cash/travellers cheques)?
Thanks,
Andrew

Re: china explored - money required
Hi Andrew,
Sorry for the delay in my reply.
The question of how much money to take on holiday is a hard one to answer.
You need to allow around US$45 for entrance fees, about US$20 for tips (per week) any meals that are not included, and of course any souvenirs etc..
You will have plenty of free time and may want to hire a bike, sample local cuisine etc.. You can eat quite a substantial meal for US$3-6 and even an upmarket restaurant will seldom cost more than US$8. It is better to bring more money than you'll actually need, just in case. You don't have to spend it.
I can't really suggest how much to take, but you should consider taking all in hard currency US Dollars/British Pounds. Generally we recommend you carry the majority of your funds (around 70%) as travellers cheques for security reasons. Do carry some cash, a small amount is often useful in remote regions.
You can see in detail the itinerary of your tour and some of the costs not included etc.. by downloading the trip dossier at the following address:

I hope this helps.

You should be ok with $800, just leave something in your checking account back home that you can access with your ATM card in case you run out of money. You will have a lot of free time on the tour and depending on what you do - i.e. independent touring where you take a taxi, shopping, biking around - those misc. items (especially the taxis - they really add up!). Do bring USD cash - many hotels do not change TC due to some new Bank of China memo - they will change cash though but the rate is lower.
