You will often find it very hard to pay for meals and drinks by card, especially outside of the main cities. You would be far better off just using ATM's when ever you need to make a purchase, or if you prefered you could use an innocuous money belt which keeps your money and cards under your clothes, out of plain sight. These can be bought from many outdoors and travel retail stores such as Millets, Field and Trek, and Blacks Outdoors.

Re the recent posts re best way to carry travel money I dont like travel cheques and dont want to carry loads of cash. My preference is to pay by credit or debit card in restaurants and bars etc. Is this likely to be possible outside the big cities on the China insight tour. Re cash can chinese currency be obtained outside China or only available once there?

Also wondering how many people have booked for China Insight 17/9/07?
