Re: Delhi to Kathmandu Again
Hi Tracy
I've just come back from the same tour - went in October - and had a whale of a time. We didn't go on to Kathmandu although two of our party did, leaving us in Varanasi. We stayed longer then went back to Delhi. Having said that, I'm off to Nepal in March which will be my third Imaginative Traveller trip.
I was on the Indian trip with an old school friend - both of us are 42 - and we weren't the youngest or the oldest. I'm scared of big animals and heights so gave the camel ride a miss. I went out before the ride left and tried out a camel for size in private then said "Get me off!". I spent a relaxing couple of hours in the hotel shops and having a massage instead. Be warned, if you go for the massage option, the Indian massage is really hard and my head was bruised for days!!! And take your earrings off!
If you want to know anything else, do let me know but, really, half the fun is not knowing. Just one thing - be prepared for very bumpy journeys and think about bringing a towel to sit on!!!! Oh, and it sounds silly but, if you're a clever clogs, you'll bring one of those insulating sleeves to put round your bottle of water - I didn't but I was so jealous of one seasoned traveller who did.

Re: Delhi to Kathmandu Again
Hi, thanks for your reply..It is funny because I am afraid of heights and riding animals, but I will give it a try..I have been on a camel before, but it was lead by someone and going really slow...Was this the case or were people on their own?
Thanks for the tips...How was the food, i.e. did you get sick? (i love Indian food, but how is it in India?)And I guess lastly, how are the accomodations? Thanks, and I do appreciate your input before we book..If I think of anything else, I will let you know![[Wink]](wink.gif)
Re: Delhi to Kathmandu Again
Hello again Tracy. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply ... Christmas and all that. I think the camels were lead around all rather sedately. Not galloping up and down sand dunes or anything. Everyone really enjoyed it, especially stopping to meet the locals.
The food was fine and although I did get a little sick of curry in the end! In the classier restaurants it was basically the same as an Indian restaurant overseas. We even tried out our favourite dishes to compare. You come across all sorts though.
Neither Anj or I got particularly ill - no running for cover - but we did notice a change, shall we say. Nothing you wouldn't expect back home if you ate curry two or three times a day. I didn't get ill 'til I was home and that was nothing to do with the trip. One guy was a bit iffy but I think he got sunstroke next to the swimming pool and another girl was a little green for a couple of days so you do need to be careful about what you eat and drink.
As for accommodation, be prepared for very hard beds. I have a hard bed at home but nothing like I came across in India. I'm not going to tell you about the places you stay but some are amazing - not luxurious, but amazing.
Have a fantastic trip.
Jules
