I did the southwest china/yangtze trip last year and I am now looking into a trip to India. Looking for any advice on trips-are the tiger reserves worth the effort? SOuth versus north india?

Re: india

Hi debbie. i think the tiger reserves are worth it. i just came back from the rajasthan safari, and sariska tiger reserve was my 2nd favorite part (after camel safari). i thought ranthambore would have given us a better chance to see tigers though, and an indian friend of mine went somewhere else, near kajuraho, i can get the name for you if you want. he saw tigers and
i did not, but that didn't hamper the fun.
a big problem in india is poachers. you can read about it in the rough guide. it's becoming very difficult to see tigers, because even the park employees in some cases are assisting the poachers. all of these reserves are north india. i know nothing of south india. if you like asiatic lines you might try sasan gir lion reserve in gujarat, in the northwest near bombay.
feel free to contact joey@igt.com.

Re: india

Hi Debbie,

If it is your first time to India I would definitely go to the North as it would be such a shame not to see the big sites there. If you like it you can always go back for more another year. I did the North Indian Highlights trip which was excellent - a good mixture of things to do. We did see tigers at Ranthambore which was awesome, but as Joey (?) says, looking for them is half the fun. I guess a camel safari would be good as well though.
