Anyone on the Inland China tour leaving on the Sun 13th June?
I'm planning to get into Hong Kong a few days before (10th June I hope) to soak up the atmosphere and do some sight-seeing. Would be great to meet another friendly face if anyone else on the tour is getting in early.
Cheers
Ross

Hong Kong Sight seeing
Hi Ross,
I'm in the process of booking the China Odyssey tour leaving Hong Kong on 13th June. I think its basically the same tour but continues after Beijing.
I'm waiting to get it confirmed as its a late request but all going well I'll be on it! Like you my plan is to arrive in Hong Kong early (11th June) to do some sight seeing etc.
It would be good to meet up and go exploring if you fancy it?
I should have confirmation in the next day or two. Fingers crossed!
Cheers

Hi Rob,
I'm going to be on my own. I'm 30 from London. Not been to China before but went to South America a couple of years ago and had a great time.
Looking forward to meeting you!!
Ross

rob
Rob,
I'm flying with virgin I'm afraid(always had bad reviews from friends & family flying with BA), lucky thing as it turns out. I'm sure you'll be fine with a long haul flight though.
My friend who just came back from HK said red/white taxis are cheap. He also recommended the train, and added their underground system is immaculate, so I'm going to try that.
I did some web browsing a while back and found this information it might be of interest:
Getting to and from Hong Kong International Airport is easy, convenient and relatively inexpensive.
Train - The Mass Transit Railway's (MTR) high-speed Airport Express takes approximately 24 minutes to Hong Kong Island and is the fastest transport link to the airport. Airport Express passengers can take a free shuttle bus from Kowloon and Hong Kong stations to major hotels. Both these stations provide free in-town check-in services for major airlines.
Taxi - Taxis are readily available from the taxi pick-up area in front of the Arrivals Hall. Take a red taxi unless travelling only to Lantau (blue) or the New Territories (green). All taxis can go to and from the airport. Fares are metered and details of fares and extra charges are clearly displayed inside each cab.
Bus - There are 11 convenient Airbus “A” routes that can take you to key locations on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories including Lantau Island with fewer stops than an ordinary city bus. When you exit the Arrivals Hall, turn right for Airbuses and city buses From Airport
Hi Rob and Ross,
I'll be staying in the same hotel too. I arrive in HK around 2.30pm on Friday 11th. I'm flying with KLM but fingers crossed BA get you there Rob!
I think the airport bus drops you near the hotel. If you want to go direct to the door a shuttle bus costs $110 (less than a tenner)if you book it through the Hotel in advance.
I've never done a tour like this before although I did do a good bit of backpacking a few years ago. It looks like we'll be on the go the whole time. I had a wee look at the train on you tube as well - very interesting! I think the whole trip will be a lot of fun :)
Cannot believe this is happening so soon. Looking forward to meeting you all!
Cheers
