Hello
I am doing the Mt Fuji climb as part of Empire of the Sun tour in August and I was wondering what the most suitable clothing would be for this.
Also, as I will be travelling for at least six weeks beforehand through Europe I was wondering if it was anybody had sent items there ahead of their arrival i.e. could I post clothing for the climb prior to my departure overseas?
Many thanks
Kristen

Re: Japan- Luggage
Hi Kristen,
Thanks for your questions.
There are no specific clothes recommended for the Fuji climb. We do recommend something warm such as a fleece, a torch for the evening time and walking boots or sturdy trainers. The rest is up to you depending on what you feel comfortable trekking in.
To be honest I don't think it would be very practical to post items to Japan ahead of your tour but what I would say is that it is possible to leave some extra luggage behind at the hotel in Tokyo whilst you are on tour as other travellers have done this in the past.
This is particularly useful if you are carrying a lot at the start of the tour as the bullet trains do not 'hang around' and it's important that you can quickly get on board when the train arrives at the station.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Brendan

Pack warm clothes,or at least a good base layer. When you stop it is cold before dawn on mount Fuji.![[Wink]](wink.gif)
On the Fujisan walk there is quite a bit of shale, especially if you walk around the summit. You could do it in trainers but your ankles might benefit from some support. Don't wear anything new, it will not look pristine when you return. I used light walking boots, but stubbed my toes a few times. A head torch is good for a couple of hours if the moon is cloud covered.
Do take the hike up Yufuin, it is a good primer, and great views.
You can leave stuff at the hotel at the start. Why not have some clothes cleaned while you are away? It is a real luxury when you get back.
