Re: Journey Across China
Hi Ian,
There are lots of different ways out of Kunming, but I guess the first question is where will you be going on to.
If you are flying from NZ just to do this trip, I would probably advise you to get a return air ticket to Beijing and then at the end of your trip, you could fly back to Beijing from Kunming. Internal flights in China are not that expensive, and this would be a quick and easy option.
You can also fly from Kunming to Hong Kong although this may be slightly more expensive (Hong Kong doesn't count as a domestic flight within China).
The other options are going to be the train or bus. There are not many places that are accessible by bus - Kunming is fairly isolated and although there are long distance bus connections, they probably wouldn't go where you would be wanting to go.
Trains are fairly easy to use and can cover much longer distances. However, to get to Hong Kong, for example, it would still take you 40-45 hours if you were going to go by train. It can also be difficult to purchase tickets if you don't speak Chinese.
My advice, then, would be to fly out of Kunming, but if you give me more of an idea about where you are heading, I can perhaps be more helpful.

Re: Journey Across China
Hello,
I am also very interested in this tour. It makes the most sense for me to fly into and out of Beijing. Hence I will need to fly from Kunming to Beijing at the end of the tour, as you suggest. Do you know about how long this will take and how much a one-way ticket could be expected to cost?
Also, can Imtrav help me arrange the reservation before the tour?
Many thanks in advance for any info ...
