Hi,we are going to be booking the Delhi to Kathmandu tour within a few weeks..My question is: What type of luggage should we take?
We recently purchased a 6 piece Swiss Army set on wheels and was told that possibly this type of luggage is not suitable for India..What do you think?..In the set is a duffle bag on wheels, but the rest are suitcases..There is also a back pack...
Any recommendations would be appreciated. ![[Roll Eyes]](rolleyes.gif)

Re: Luggage
I was not planning on bringing all the 6 pieces!! Was just wondering if any of the pieces would be suitable...Does everyone bring back packs? If so, I am going to have to go shopping and my poor brand new set of luggage will be just sitting there collecting dust!!
Not that I am not happy with your answer, but when we were on the Nile Safari a few years ago, I think every single person had wheeled luggage..How does this tour (Delhi to Kathmandu)compare to the Nile Safari with regards to carrying luggage because we were so happy that we had wheels in Egypt as at times we had to walk a long way and would have never had the strength to carry it. Thanks for your reply!!![[Razz]](tongue.gif)
Re: Luggage
Thanks again..We have 2 pieces in the set that we can use, so maybe we will just travel light!!
I don't think I want to be the only one wheeling around luggage!!
When we purchased that set of luggage, we did not realize we were going to India...
Re: Luggage
We bought two 'bakkpacks/suitcases'. They are like soft suitcases and have wheels and also backpack straps. Hopefully they will be the best of both worlds as we are doing a lot more travelling than just india - of course they wont be 100% ideal for luggin on long treks in nepal (but plan on leaving them somewhere safe and just taking smaller daypacks), but then I dont want to be in Rome & Vienna in posh hotels with scuzzy bakcpack so im hoping these will cover all our bases......they have detatchable day packs too so i think thats pretty handy. I just cant wait to get on with it all and get 'on the road' yipppee
Re: Luggage
That sounds great...I haven't seen luggage like that...Ours all have wheels but no strap except for the one duffle bag, it has wheels and a strap, so we will take that and then we have a back pack with wheels with a detachable day pack..We also are doing alot more travelling and were hoping the luggage would be good for all modes of travel...
So unfortunately I guess we have to get my husband something similar...Where did you get your luggage and what is it called?
Hope you have a great trip..
We have been travelling for quite a few years now and have always wanted to do India so we are really excited..
Re: Luggage
We have an eddie bauer and a high sierra. Caterpillar also does something simlar - wheels & backpack straps. There are a few other makes but in our price range the high sierra were best value. We did a months trip down the west coast of Australia and the cases/backpacks were brilliant. The high sierra is a bit less bulky, but the eddie bauer has great sub-compartments in it. happy luggage hunting!
Re: Luggage

Re: Luggage
Hi, I dit this trip in Februar last year, You may find some foto's of the trip on my webpage http://users.pandora.be/ludo.wuyts./indiasub1.htm
It was a great trip, you don't have to carry so much with your luggage, only at the airport and at the trainstation in Agra, the busdriver is taking care of the bags the rest of the time.
Re: Luggage
Ludo, I really enjoyed looking at your pictures...Do you have any suggestions or any advice that you may want to share regarding India and Nepal and the tour in general? How were the hotels? And how was the camel ride? Thanks.

I can surely recommend this trip to you,
In the dessert 'Rajasthan' we had about 28
Re: Luggage
Well thanks for that report Ludo..Your English is alot better than my Dutch!!
It sounds like you had a great trip..We will be going to Nepal too.
I guess my biggest concern right now is that I won't have enough room in my luggage to buy things as my suitcase is not too big!!
And I am a little concerned about the camel ride because I am afraid of riding animals..
But other than that, I can't wait..We are also going to stop in Hong Kong on the way home...
If I think of anything else I will let you know..We are not going until October so I have lots of time to prepare myself!!
