hi!
Does anyone know whether it is ok to bring food into China (eg... power bars, peanut butter, etc) for those times when one craves a familiar snack from home? Have heard some say that there is no problem doing so, while others say that foodstuffs are confiscated upon arrival... anyone have any experience with this?Just wondering and would love to hear your insight....
Also what about prescription medications, any problems with customs?

Re: peanut butter and China?
Hello,
It's probably a good idea to contact the embassy and ask for what is allowed as this can vary from country to country.
It is always a good idea to minimise the food stuffs that you bring into a particular country as there are often complications. I'm sure you will be able to buy a local sugar source in China itself avoiding such a situation
Re: peanut butter and China?
If you have any prescription medicines it might be a good idea to ask ur doctor for a copy of teh presciption to take with you. then you can show that it is prescribed specifically for you.
Re: peanut butter and China?
Hello again.
Sorry for missing the prescription bit out earlier.
Really I
Re: peanut butter and China?
I was on a china tour last October. When getting the train from Hong Kong to mainline China you were asked to declare any foodstuffs you were taking in. Our tour guide emphasised that any declarations of this sort would cause awkward and time-consuming problems! I guess it is up to you whether you try to take stuff in without declaring it but two (out of 9) in our group had their bags searched when we got off the train. The food in china is great though and we had no problems finding snacks.
