I am joining the Rajastan Safari November 6 tour, I am going to arrive in Delhi on the evening of November 4 which means I have a full day/night in Delhi before joining the others on November 6.

The itinery I have been supplied with advises that we take in a New Delhi tour but no mention of Old Delhi. Can you advise me if Old Delhi is visited at all or should I make my own arrangements to see the sights. Obviously Old Delhi is a must-see.

Is there anyone else on this tour arriving early? Maybe we can join up for "drinks on the terrace" and get a plan going.!!

Not long now.

Hello jastan99,

Thanks for the post.

Here is a copy from the trip dossier.
DELHI
Delhi is an ancient city, with countless monuments dating from many different historical periods. The best known of these, such as the Red Fort and the Jama Masjid, can be found in the walled city-within-a-city known as Old Delhi. This area is often impossibly crowded and is a perfect introduction to the organised chaos that is India. Our hotel is situated not far away, but it feels like a different world, and makes for a much easier environment in which to recover from the jet lag and adjust to the culture shock that is India. Here in the planned city of New Delhi you will find grand government buildings, wide streets and plenty of greenery, interspersed with modern market areas, and yet more ancient monuments. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to places to go and things to see during any free time here.
In short plan to visit Old Delhi on your first day and also remember that day one, the 6th will be free as you will have already checked in and only need meet up with the group that evening for the tour leader briefing.

Have a great trip.

Re: Rajastan Safaris November 6

Hi Jan,

I'm on the Pushkar Camel Fair Tour that begins in Delhi the same day. Unfortunately it appears that our tours have different meeting hotels.

If for some reason you don't connect with others on your tour, we could hook up in the morning and tour Delhi together. Our meeting place is the Marina Hotel.

Unfortunately the US broker for Imaginative Traveller couldn't get me a room at the Marina. They did offer me a room for $90 US!! one hour and twenty minutes away from where the meeting hotel. Instead, I chose to book the night of the 5th at a hotel called Bajaj Indian Homestay. I found them on Asia-Hotels.com.

Look forward to hearing from you.
Nancy

Hello Nancy

Great to hear from you. According to Edtrav's post it seems I will have two full days in Delhi before joining my group (I thought we would all meet about midday - as mentioned in brochure) so I will definitely want to get out and about and see a few sights. I am staying at the meeting place hotel (see my post in Q&A). I checked out your hotel as mentioned in your post - looks very exotic and very affordable. As time gets closer we can organise where to meet etc.

I'm not sure where we are both situated distance-wise. My hotel is fairly close to India Gate I gather but not sure where that is in relation to yours.

Did you read the Delhi guide tour notes on the Asia-Hotels.com site? It was very interesting, the writer certainly didn't gloss over the bits he/she didn't like. Nice to read an honest appraisal and not just something written for the tourists. I love travel and I have a very open mind and therefore have had some wonderful experiences because I am adaptable. I'm sure we can leave Delhi with a few great stories to tell as well.

Keep in touch.
Jan
