My wife and I are thinking about this tour and we are interested to find out more on the three day camal ride.

Could we please have a few details on the saddle that is used. We have previously ridden camals on Imtrav tour of Egypt and are hesitant on the thought a long time on one

Regards

Ian

Re: Rajasthan Safari

Go for the camel safari. It was such an experience am I am not a girl who likes to rough it!!. My friend and I both took cushions for extra padding on the camel and this helped. Also if it all gets too much the nice men who transport the tents will take you to the next stop in the van. The night out under the stars and the entertainment was just unforgettable.

Re: Rajasthan Safari

I am about to signup for the Rajasthan Safari leaving on Feb 6 05; it includes all of the places I'd like to see but I, also, have reservations bout camel riding. That's never been high on my list of activities (I'm an older woman who skiis, hikes and kayaks) -- so it appears one needs to bring some padding, or opt out of that part of the trip. Three days in Jaisalmer seems a bit much. I'd welcome further comments.
Thanks, karen
(will I be the only person from the US? Not that it bothers me:) )

Re: Rajasthan Safari

Hello,

I just returned from Rajasthan Safari today and opted out of the camel safari as I, too, had already done one in Morocco. I stayed on in Jodphur an extra night before hiring a driver to take me to Jaisalmer to meet the group the following day. I highly recommend staying on in Jodphur, as otherwise there is little time to explore this city before departing for Jaisalmer. That still leaves enough time to explore Jaisalmer, which is a lot smaller than Jodphur.

Hope this helps. Happy to answer any other questions.

Re: Rajasthan Safari

Hi-
Thanks for your reply! I've just about decided to do the camel ride as I am not good with the feeling that I might miss something that others are doing. And, the camping itself seems like fun to me. It seems you must have made a fairly last minute decision to stay in Jodphur rather than notify ImTrav initially about opting out of the safari. That appears to me a good approach.
I've changed to the Feb 27 departure and would welcome any other tips and advice you might offer about the trip. I have already received loads of wonderful information from readers of this board. Also, love to locate other readers who are on my trip -- I arrive in DEL the day before the tour and depart the day after. Flying via Canada from the Washington DC area.

Re: Rajasthan Safari

In my opinion the camel saddles were much better than one I had in Morocco, and they had rope stirrups which seemed to make a big difference for stabilty and not having your legs go to sleep.

However the 3 guys on our trip all were walking by day 2 as the saddles rubbed their manly bits, some soft padding (e.g. an airline type small pillow) probably would have been enough to prevent this.

The trek goes through some beautiful remote villages with friendly people living extremely unspoilt and traditional lives, and the stars at night are spectacular. The food was also good, amazing what can be cooked on a burner in the desert! So even if you end up walking (it's not arduous), I'd recommend you do it.

Ok! I stand convinced and will do the camel trek. Doing some imaging of me on a camel. Sat on a stuffed one at FAO Schwartz. Anyone else out there on my trip-- Raj Safari, leaving Feb 27.
See ya,

Hi!

Just wanted to ask what company/agency did you hire a car and driver from to take you onto Jaisalmer from Jodhpur, and how much it was?

Thanks!

Re: Rajasthan Safari

Hi Molly,

I can't remember exactly how much the driver cost. I shared the cost with another member of the group who joined me. I think it might have been about Rs 3000 for the car? It took about three hours.

Our tour leader booked the driver for us.

Re: Rajasthan Safari

Have a few questions before i leave this week. Any tips for the Raj Safari? Did you need to spray the rooms for bedbugs?

Thanks,
kar
