Scared and need reassurance!

I've travelled all across Europe and now looking to go further afield. I want to go to India because the school I teach in has a majority of Indian children.

Am I doing the right thing?

Someone tell me that I'm doing the right thing!

You are definitely doing the right thing. No travel experience I have ever had has been wasted. If you are travelling with ImTrav, then you don't have anything at all to worry about - everything will be taken care of for you.

It depends... whether you can handle culture shock or not. I'm going to India for the first time in october. I couldn't be happier about it! and I'm 24 and female... but I have a friend, 35 year old male from France who was so shocked when he visited Mexico he swore he'd never visit India.

I went to India for the first time last year and have been back twice since then. I absolutely LOVE it but will say it's not for everyone. On my first trip, it was overwhelming since there is so much to take in (sights, sounds, smells, etc) and it's all very different than the West. You'll see things that don't make sense in a Western context (ex. monkeys running loose in the middle of a city), but it all adds to the experience. That being said, you have to be very open minded about some of the things you'll see and do. Electricty goes out, showers don't always work, squat toilets are the norm, people will crowd around you out of curiosity, etc. It is also a poor country, so be ready for that. If you listen to your tour leader and are ready for anything, you should do fine!

Re: Scared and need reassurance!

It'll be great- if a little strange and at times daunting.
Leave your comfort zone, broaden your horizons, open your mind and be plagued with cliches on bulletin boards.
In ten years time you will be able to re-tell the trip day by day. You don't get that in Lanzagrotty.
Each trip is a bit of a culture shock, but that is what lures me back (though there are times when I was on a beach in Spain, but not many.)

We went on a one off once in a lifetime Imtrav trip in 2001.
On Friday we go on Number 4. Yippee (oh @~#$)
