Hey Everyone,
I have just received this from a recent Traveller to India
' Hi there! I just wanted to "warn" travellers to India about a "trick" they seem to love to use on travellers, but I didn't know how to put it online. So, please, if you could put it onto the website that might help some people. (Don't get me wrong, I had the BEST time in India and with the Indians in general!) So, here it is:
In an off-licence in Jaipur I wanted to pay with a 500 rupees note (about 10 Euros). The guy then held out a 100 rupee note and told me I'd given him only 100 rupees! I THOUGHT I'd seen him change notes with one hand, but he was SOO good and quick I couldn't be sure. My friend thought I had paid with a 100, so I gave him another 500 note. LATER I found out that some other girl of our group had had the very SAME experience in another off-licence in Jaipur. So, if you pay with large notes, make sure what you have in your hand and maybe even make a comment as "Can you change this 500 rupee note?" etc. Just a bit of advice. I don't blame them much for trying every scheme under the sun, but still... Enjoy India, it's great, Claire (from Switzerland)'
Has anyone else out there foiled any cunning ploys, or been well and truly duped? Please share!
Kind Regards,
Robert
