Hello!
I'm booked on the October 12th departure of this tour and I'm getting really excited. When I checked the site to see if the tour was full (the availability section of the tour site), my departure isn't even listed anymore - should I be worried about that?
Also, can you tell me how many people are on this tour?
Thanks!

Hello travelmonkey,
Thanks for posting on the forums!
You should not be worried that your departure is no longer advertised on our website. The reason being that it is now closed to new bookings as it is near to its departure date.
Once a tour is closed or unavailable it just disappears from the site, which I realise could be a little disconcerting for anyone already booked!
Your tour is confirmed to operate and has 6 people booked.
I hope that one of the other travellers see your post and gets in touch.
Have a wonderful time,
Best Wishes,
Kelly
Thanks, Kelly!
Is it possible for you to tell me if there are any other solo travellers on this tour? I'm female traveling on my own for thee first time, so it would be nice to know if there is anyone else in the same boat!
Thanks again!
Others on your tour
Hi Travelmonkey
Well, there are 2 solo female travellers on your tour. I assume one of them must be you, so there is another female travelling solo on this trip.
I can't give out any other details but I hope this helps!

Kelly

Hi Travel Monkey
I am on this tour starting on the 12th, along with my friend Helen.
We are flying out on the 8th to spend a few days in Beijing before the tour starts. It is my first time on a trip like this so i am just a bit nervous for any number of reasons, most probably only in my own mind!
I am also totally disorganised but hopefully i'll get there in the end and will remember( and be able to carry) everything i need.
I did see a message on one of the forums froma Chrissie(?) who i think has also booked on this trip.
Regards
Emma

Thanks, Kelly!
And hello Emma and Helen! I'm actually the Chrissy that posted those earlier notes (I know it's weird, but basically I lost my login info and ended up opening a second account).
It's great to hear from someone else is on the same tour. It looks like it's going to be a lot of fun, but yeah, I'm a bit nervous too!
Where are you and your friend flying in from? I'm coming in from Ottawa and then I'm going to Hong Kong after the tour is over.
See you soon,
Chrissy

We're flying from London, landing in Beijing on the morning of Thursday 9th. We're going onto Hong Kong for a couple of days at the end as well. Havn't sorted out how we are going to get to Hong Kong yet! We fly out from HK on the 29th.
What about you?
Em
I had issues with my login as well. I ended emailing the company to get it sorted!
Hi Emma,
I'm arriving in Beijing on the 12th in the late afternoon and I'm flying out of Hong Kong on the 30th. I haven't figured how to get to HK either, so maybe we can figure it out together. I heard that the train is pretty easy and quick, so that might be a good option.
Are you or Helen chefs or cooks or anything or are you just a big fan of food, like me? I joined this tour because I liked the idea of learning about the food while checking out the big sites, but I wasn't sure what everyone else's food experience was like.
See you soon

Helen and I arn't cooks we just like food!
I have decided i am going to try all foods put in front of me no matter how scary. I might back down from this promise if anything has a discernable pulse !
I bought mt currency today so i am starting to feel that i might be going

That sounds like a pretty good plan - nothing that's actually looking back at you :)
I can't believe we're going in a week! I got some US currency that I was planning to exchange once I got to Beijing, but I think I'm going to get some yuan too, just in case.
Looking forward to meeting you, Helen and the other travelers!
Happy travels and see you on Sunday!

Emma (and any other travelers on this tour),
I have a packing question for you: how much stuff are you bringing and what type of clothes are you bringing? I feel like I might be bringing too much. I have a back pack (I'll have to check it when we fly inside China - it's too big to be a carry-on bag) and I'm bringing four or five t-shirts, a pair of jeans, a pair of light pants, a skirt, a light fleece jacket, a light sweater or two and my toiletries. I'm also bringing a pair of walking shoes, a pair of flip flops and some casual flats. It feels like a lot, but not enough, you know? I'm also trying to consider the weather, since it's just going to get warmer the further south we go.
Any thoughts that you might have on what to pack would be great!
Thanks!

You are doing so much better than me!!
I have never knowingly travelled light and i am going to have to do some serious editing. Even so, i guarantee i will bring something back that i have never worn on the holiday, its a given!
I have a 70litre rucksack(with wheels thank god) and a day sack that i will use as hand luggage.
So i am planning to take 5 tshirts/vests, jeans, 1 pair trousers, 1 pair cropped trousers, fleece and a cardigan( i'm british it would not be possible for me to travel without a cardigan....its the law), a dress, couple of nicer tops/tshirts, everything is totally crushable although i will look like a crumpled mess.
Walking trainers, flats and some croc type things
Compared to your list it seems like way too much.
I will obviously be travelling in my heaviest clothes
I feel a crisis brewing...............

Chrissy,
Also,
I believe the theory is we should take 'layers' with us to take into account the changeable weather. I have never yet managed the layered look without looking like a bag lady.
Thinking about it I think i will try and get 3 'wears' out of each 'top' with (washes/rinses obviously along the way).
'Bottoms' I will beat with a stick as required(!) not a phrase i ever thought i would type on a polite travel forum.

Packing is always so hard. I either bring way too little or way too much. I completely forgot about a lot of stuff so I'm probably going to add a lot to my bag before I fly out too. My bag is about 64L and I have a smaller day pack too and another travel purse-type bag for when we don't need our day packs (ie at dinner). The purse/bag isn't even close to being fancy, it's just something to bring that's not a back pack. And I am pretty much bringing a whole pharmacy with me. Excessive? Maybe a little :)
I've heard about the layering from lots of people too, especially around this time of year. Of course I totally forgot about it right after. I guess I'll be throwing in a long sleeve top too, just in case. The pile just keeps on growing.
You're flying out tomorrow, right? Happy packing - looking forward to meeting you on Sunday!
