Interested to hear from anybody who has been on the Yangtse and the South West tour or any other China Tours. We are thinking of doing the Yangtse trip in Oct. our second imaginative Trav. tour. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hello,
If you travelled with us since November 2001 we will give you 5% off the tour price each time you book again.
Have a read of the dossiers if you have not already done so.
Re: Yangtse and the South West
Hello, just returned from Yangtse and the Southwest on Mar 7-27. Had we great trip. There is so much to see and do on the itinerary. The time in Kunming no longer includes the stone forrest, but our tour leader arranged a day trip for those wanting to go and the rest spent a half day at the Bamboo temple. The group sizes (we had 14 inc. leader) allowed us to get to know everyone and for meals we shared all of the dishes so lots of different things to try. I think Oct. would be a great time. A little quieter than peak season and that makes a difference in busy ares such as Forbidden City. The trip also gives free time to go around and do your own thing and we loved all the markets and shopping. The walk on the Great Wall was the highlight and harder but you can do it if your in average shape. There was a nice mix of people. Retired couples to 19 yr olds, my partner and I are around forty. So you wont regret going if you have the time.
PS we're pracitcally neighbors, we live in Edmonton.
Re: Yangtse and the South West
We are looking at the China Discovery Tour in October. Would like to do the Southwest one but don't have the time. What is the accommodation like on the tours? - the one we are looking at is an Adventurer style tour. We are happy to have basic clean accommodation but would prefer our own bathroom - is this the style you had on you previous tour? We are in our 40's - did your tour have a good mix of ages?
Thanks
Re: Yangtse and the South West
Hello,
I you have a look at our homepage you will be able to read about our styles of travel and accommodation.
Accommodation does vary according to the style of travel but not necessarily as you would find in Europe or the US where it's to a particular standard. We aim to include Hotels and accommodation of interest both culturally and experientially communally run by families. This is accommodation is obviously clean and pleasant and a joy to be in.
Generally we choose accommodation that has en-suit.
I have asked operations regarding this specific tour and will have an answer shortly.
Re: Yangtse and the South West
Hello,
Accommodation update.
All the accommodation on the tour is en-suit for except the guesthouse at Longsheng which we cannot guarantee.
Re: Yangtse and the South West
Thanks for your help on the accommodation question. We are trying to change our flight dates so that we can do the longer trip - but still do the same style trip.
Do you have anybody booked on the China Discovery or China Insight for 16/17 Oct 2005?
Re: Yangtse and the South West
No Problem.
Yes we do have people booked on both tours on the 17 October.
Re: Yangtse and the South West
Great we will be booking the China Discovery tour. Are the people booked youngish or more middle age? we are in our 40's
Re: Yangtse and the South West
Hello,
Generally there is a good make up of people ranging from their later 20's to later 30's
Re: Yangtse and the South West
Hi! I live next door in Saskatoon & am planning to take this tour in Aug/05. I have a question concerning malaria. It seems that perhaps the
biggest risk time would be the overnight trains between Yichang, Luoyang, Xi'an & Beijing. What was your experience? Did you find this to be an problem? Would a mosquito net suffice? Any comments you have would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks. Larry.

Re: Yangtse and the South West
Hello,
Unfortunately we do not give out advice on malaria and you should contract your local GP or perhaps look up some advice online.
Have a look at the following website online at http://www.masta.org/
I hope this helps.
Re: Yangtse and the South West
Hi gopher-rock, As a health care worker I had many of my vaccinations already done. I still got an appointment with my GP and contacted my local health authority for info, because they have a travellers office. I didn't use malaria medication because it was early spring that we travelled and it wasn't necessary. I didn't see any mosquitos during our trip, and believe me if there was just one in all of China it would find me because they love my blood for some reason. I'm sure in August it's quite different story. When you get an appointment make sure and not put it off to late, as some of the vaccinations(like hepatitis) need the first round at least a month before your vacation. As far as a net, personally I would give it up for a good repellent that is useful during the day and night. Saving space was important to me because I did alot of shopping. We stayed in Beijing and extra day just to go to the markets. The website for my health authority's travel advise is www.capitalhealth.ca/travellers/ and it has useful info. This was a great tour and you'll have a great time. If you'd like to look at photo's my album link is in the website/ holiday forum. Carol
