Hi Rachel,
I did this trip last December, and loved it! It was a good mix of cities, culture, countryside and desert. There were a few long days travelling and it was sometimes very cold at nights/early mornings. I found a long sleeved thermal top, fleece, hat, etc. was enough. There is a bit of carrying bags from place to place, on and off trains, etc., so something you can carry easily (including up and down steps) is good.
