Information about this trip starting 3/4 October 2009. I have noted in the Midde Eastern Oyssey starting 3 October people have had problems with obtaining money in Syria. I am not too happy about carrying cash. Any suggestions?

Hey Sue Mitch

Many thanks for your post.

I would take some cash with you as well as a card to use at ATM's you shouldn't need too much cash as most of the entrance fees for this trip are included in the tour cost. Travellers cheques can be a pain but of you would prefer to take them then ask the tour leader the best place to change them.

I hope that this helps.

Hi Sue,
By the sound of it you are also joining us on the trip through Jordan & Syria starting on the 3rd Oct. So far I've heard from Pam and Tom but no-one else. Where are you from and when will you be arriving in Damascus. I'm Australian and will be arriving very late on the 2nd so will be wanting to meet up with others on the trip on the 3rd before the tour starts. I'm taking some US dollars and ATM card and relying on our guide to get me organised. Hope to change a bit at the airport on arrival but as Kate said I can't see that we'll need much to start with and our guide has done it all before so should be able to cope with us. I have wondered if the hotel will have an exchange desk where we can get some money. They often do.
Look forward to meeting you,
Trish.

Syrian Highlights

Hello all,

I think I shall be joining this group in Damascus for 8 days for the Syrian Highlights part of the trip. I guess that the groups merge at that point. Arriving in the early hours of the 10th and we don't have a meeting till the evening. If there is anyone who wants a wander around on the Saturday finding a nice restaurant and sharing a few drinks let me know!!

Have been to Petra before with IT and it is a wonderful place, enjoy Jordan.

See you soon, John (UK)

Damascus

Pam / Tom, We may miss each other, but I thought your trip started in Amman and I was calculating that you would be in Damascus by the weekend. I think you change guides there. Anyway I'm from Wirral and am looking forward to Syria. I have been to Crac de Chevaliers in 2002 & it is impressive so keen to see it again. Best wishes. John

Damascus

Sorry we won't meet up, there is a trip that joins ours I understand. Yes have travelled with ImTrav once back in 2001, getting to Cairo and back from Amman just 2 months after 9/11 was difficult as many airines cancelled those routes! However Petra was almost empty and is a wonderful place. The group was very good and was an interesting mix of backgrounds, ages and nationalities. I am sure you wil have a great time, only been to Syria once - was working for a short period on a cruise ship that called in to see Crac de Chevalier and Homs, people as I recall very friendly and welcoming.
