Hi Steffi - I visited Mongolia with ImTrav last year - but did the shorter trip (Vistas). I loved it so much that I am doing your tour next year. Some suggestions if I may - take very little. Pants with zips are a must. During the day it can be incredibly hot - shorts and singlets - and if it rains - cold - pants and a hoodie. At night and first thing in the morning it can drop to under 0 in a what seems like a second. Make sure you are well prepared for rain, cold and heat and have a wide brimmed hat - sunburn is real thing in Mongolia. Even though a thermarest if provided, I took my own as well so had super comfy nights. Take a silk and a thermal sleeping sheet - never too hot and never too cold and a good sleeping bag that can handle the cold tempretures if they happen. Buy all your yummies, pharmacuticals (car sickness tablets are a must), extra camping gear there. You have no idea how cheap it is!!! Second to last - buy your souveniers in Khakhoram at the main store and also at the markets by the turtle - it is MUCH cheaper than the big store in UB. Lastly - the vans WILL break down. The drivers are all mechanics as well - but sometimes things take time. Look at these moments as a chance to see or experience a place you wouldn't have had the chance to see. Two of the best moments of my trip were caused due to mechanical problems. Enjoy! Tae PS. The vodka is so cheap you are going to have to try it - a lot.
Hi Tea! thanks a lot for the suggestions ... dont you want to go on the same trip as I this year? :-) would be cool ... If you have any more suggestions / experiences, just tell me, I want to know everything! I really cant wait for august, I`m dreaming of visiting a real desert since years ... =)
Thanks for getting in touch. I've just come back from China and the tour leader leads a lot of our Mongolian Tours. He raves about Mongolia, as does everyone that visits there!
At the moment there are 5 people booked and 1 on option for the 3rd Aug and 4 people booked on the 17th Aug.
