re Sichuan Explorer 10 May 2009

Monika and I are coming from Alberta
I heard Xiahe and Langmusi have been closed to foreigners.
What's the latest information - will they reopen or is the tour rerouted somewhere else?
Cheers
Geoff

Hi Geoff,

Due to the fact that there was unrest in early 2008 in the Tibetan areas of Xiahe and Langmusi, the Chinese Government has recently restricted travel to these areas by foreigners in anticipation that the same problems might occur this year.

This has not been the case, and as the information that we have received from the Chinese authorities and our local operators in China suggests that these restrictions will be lifted at the end of April we believe that the itinerary of this tour will be able to proceed as normal.

However, in the event that these restrictions are not lifted this tour may operate according to an amended itinerary.

At this point there is not a definite change to the itinerary, and all the information that we have suggests that the tour will be able to run as normal. We are just looking to make sure that pax are aware that we have an alternative itinerary in place in case of any problems.

Geoff, and any others reading who are going on this tour, will soon hear from us or your travel agent with details of the itinerary amendments that may be made.

Best wishes,
Kelly

Sichuan Explorer

We're on the tour starting 10 May
Coming from Canada we're getting a little worried about recent events, in particular the recent apparently random quarantine for a week of a bunch of kids because they came from Canada.
What is the current situation and what happens if we find ourselves in a similar position when the tour takes us from Hong Kong into mainland China, or when we fly into Hong Kong?
Should we be preparing a backup plan for some other destination that can be reached by flying from Hong Kong - maybe Indonesia? Is the situation there any different?
Please reply soon as we leave on Thursday

Hi Jean-Luc

Thanks for your post

At present we forsee no problems with your arrival into Hong Kong. Presently they are checking people arriving at the Newton Kowloon for any fever. However, this will be stopping on the 8th May
