Just wondering if any1 has done a tour during the Christmas period & if so what (if any) differences to expect.
Any jump in prices for attractions or even just day 2 day things? Is it extremely busy during this time.
I hope to visit with my girlfriend & this is the only time which suits us both.

It will also b our 1st time in Egypt so all other info gladly welcome.
(planning 2do the nile rover tour)

1st time 2 Egypt @ Christmas

Hello Mark,

I have had the pleasure of enjoying a tour in Egypt at Christmas time! It was back in Dec 2003 & I also enjoyed New Years Day 2004 in Cairo!

The tour I did at that time was the Jewels of Egypt tour & it truly was a "Jewel" of a tour. We enjoyed a wonderful day swimming in the Red Sea on Christmas Day...just magic!

Now to answer your questions! I never noticed any mark up of prices, I have travelled in Egypt quite a lot & believe I would have noticed. Nor were there any huge jumps in numbers visiting sites.

I did not expect to see any Christmas displays in Egypt, but I was incorrect. There were Christmas decorations throughout the country not as much as at home, but still noticeable. There were also plenty of New Years Day decorations scattered about the country.

A memory that remains strong in my mind, even though I was very sick at the time, was of Christmas carols being sung in different languages in the foyer of the Hotel in Hurghada. That was a truly memorable evening!

I would not hesitate in going back at this time of year!

Keep in mind that it is winter time in Egypt at that time of year. It took me by surprise, as I left home in 40c+ temps & flew into the one of the coldest winters on record in Egypt. I was ever so glad I packed a coat!!

Hope all this helps in some way.

Kindest regards........Debbie

We are both looking forward 2 our trip & thanks 4 the tip on the weather (I had drinks on deck at night in summer gear in mind, sounds more like coat & jeans now).

Thanks again, nice 2 have feedback from sum1 who's been b4 & is obviously a fan.

1st time 2 Egypt @ Christmas

Hello Mark,

You are very welcome, I enjoy helping fellow travellers! I am unable to travel at the moment myself, so I get my Egypt fix right here!

By the way, I have also enjoyed the Nile Rover tour in November 2006 I think it was. A very nice tour, with a good mixture of sites & rest time. I hope you manage the trip & have a wonderful time.

Just remember no bare knees or shoulders (this goes for men too)& no plunging necklines for the girls. While onboard Melodie you can wear swimmers, short shorts etc, but it might be a tad cold at that time of year!!

Egypt is a desert country & it can get quite cold at night, so I would indeed pack a jacket of some sort & a jumper or 2! The wind can be quite cold at times.

Remember to pack an open mind & heart & your sense of humour! Have a lemon juice for me, All the best....Debbie

Egypt in Christmas

Hello,
I lived in Egypt for three years, and also worked as a tour leader for ImTrav for two of those years, and ran two tours over Christmas. I can say from experience that not much will change, if anything. As a muslim nation they dont take a great notice of it, but quite a lot of hotels will decorate and I even saw a few christmas trees! I was able to arrange a nice turkey dinner for my groups, so hopefully your tour leader will be able to do something as well.

Egypt is fantastic at any time of year, and I{m sure you will have a great time out there! The word lots of people use for holidays is Kola Sana Wenta Tayeb (All year you are OK). You will probably hear it quite a lot from the locals wishing you a Merry Christmas.
Enjoy!
Jonathan

Egypt in Christmas

Hello Jonathan,

I remember meeting you with the group that ran parallel to the "Jewels of Egypt" tour I travelled with in Dec '03. I think that was the tour, could have even been, November 2006, when I did the Nile Rover, not sure now that I am really thinking about it!!! .

Sorry to read that you are no longer in Egypt, I felt as though you enjoyed being there very much.

Anyway, nice to bring back memories! Take care & have a wonderful Christmas & New Year, may 2009 bring you nothing but the best!

See you........Debbie
