Hi,
I have a question about the Abu Simbel side trip.
If you fly, you only spend an hour at the site even though it would seem that you have much more time up your sleeve as the flight only takes 45 mins.
If you take the bus it takes 3hours each way and yet you spend 2 hours at the site. ?
Thanks
Richard

Re: Abu Simbel excursion
Hi Richard,
The main reason for the different times spent at Abu Simbel, basically boils down to one simple point.... Schedules
The time spent at Abu Simbel when flying, has to coincide with Egypt Air's flight timetable, where as the coach journey has to coincide with the police convoy which leaves for Abu Simbel and must set off again at 10:00 AM.

Re: Abu Simbel excursion
Although more expensive to fly to Abu Simbel, you arrive at sunrise before all the buses (they arrive as you are leaving) so you don't have to contend with hundreds of tourists. An hour is sufficient for most people and besides you have the rest of the day to explore other sites or join a felucca trip back in town. Saves you heaps of time on a tight itinerary!!!! It's a must do which ever way you travel!!
Re: Abu Simbel excursion
Hello Richard,
I have to agree with Carmen & Laur, Abu Simbel is a "must do". This Temple's artwork is superb. The facade just blows you away as you walk around to face it for the first time.....it is just amazing.
On the way back from Aswan airport you can divert to visit the unfinished obelisk & then perhaps go for a felluca cruise...next time I want to try fishing for a Nile perch, you could see them breaking water all the time.
What ever you decide, I would certainly suggest you try to include Abu Simbel, if your time & bank balance can allow it. Have a great time, wish I could join you.
