My boyfriend and I will be on the Egypt & Jordan Caravan tour in December. We are looking forward to an excursion to Abu Simbel. We are planning to fly, but will book our own flights because the excursion associated with the tour only allows 1 hour at the site.
So, my questions: ideally, how much time should we allow at Abu Simbel? If we arrive in Abu Simbel at 7am, would a return flight at 10:30am or 1:10pm be better? We will be catching the sleeper train that evening, so any thoughts about timing would be appreciated also (e.g. is a 2pm flight arrival at Aswan too late?).
Thanks,
Carrie

Re: Abu Simbel - how much time to spend there?
We have just returned from the Egypt & Jordan caravan - you'll love it! Our tour leader advised us to take the bus to Abu Simbel, which our whole group did. We had a large bus to ourselves and slept all the way there and back. We even took blankets and pillows from the "Melodie" with us. We spent about 2 hours at Abu Simbel and really, that's long enough. By then it was getting really hot and we were glad to return in our air-con bus (slept again). Apparantly flying is less convenient and involves taxis as well. Judging by the number of buses at the site, most people go by bus. Be guided by your Im Trav Tour Leader.
