Has anyone else heard that the road to Abu Simbel is now open? I have been having trouble getting a plane ticket so I have been checking with a lot of travel agent (plus getting help from board moderator - Chris - Thanks!) and I just had one of those travel agents tell me the road is now open - is this true? Thanks! Kellyann

Yes, it's true. Dec the halls and blow out the candles, the road to Abu Simbel is now officially open to tourists.

The Imaginative Traveller will be offering the following excursion by road:

Travel by coach will be priced at USD45.00 and can ONLY be booked through your Tour Leader at the start of your tour. Payment is in cash only (USD, Sterling or Egyptian pounds). Entrance fees (approx. USD10.00) are not included in the excursion price.

Abu Simbel is a stunning site and we're all glad that a lot more people will have the opportunity to see it.

Hi Price,

Imaginative Traveller clients are guaranteed the option to visit the Abu Simbel site no matter whether the group is made up of one person or thirty. I couldn't say for sure whether other operators can offer this kind of flexibility.

All the coaches we use for our Abu Simbel excursion will be air-conditioned. I couldn't say whether other operators are doing the same but it seems only sensible for a long journey.

A Tour Leader will escort all of our groups on the excursion and a Government employed tour guide is included in your entrance fee.

Travel by coach will be priced at USD25.00 and can ONLY be booked through your Tour Leader at the start of your tour. Payment is in cash only (USD, Sterling or Egyptian pounds). Entrance fees, which include the services of a local guide (approx. USD10.00) are not included in the excursion price.
