Hi
Just wanted to ask about backpacks and suitcases.
I have a suitcase with wheels and a day pack which I was planning to take however after reading some of the messages I see people are being recommended to take backpacks.
In all honestly which would you recommend? Will taking a suitcase be a burden? Its just that I dont have a large backpack and my money is a little tight right now so buying a backpack is not at the top of my list.
I would be gratfeul for any advice
Thanks

Re: Backpack or suitcase??

When we went to Egypt a few years ago with Imag. Traveller, we did not take back packs, but we each took a suitcase with wheels..It was never a problem whatsoever...

A rucksack is just another term for a backpack - have you never heard this before??
Maybe its just a british thing

Anyway I am travelling on the nile and beyond tour - if a backpack is more convenient then I could probably buy a cheap one.
Thanks

Re: Backpack or suitcase??

I just got back from the Nile Safari. There was a mix of people with suitcases and backpacks. Didnt really seem to matter. Suitcases are easier to organise and keep things tidy, whereas backpacks are easier to carry. You can pick backpacks up for 10-20quid in supermarkets. Whatever you take i think i took far too many clothes. Take some handwash and do some cleaning if u have any hotel stops. The heat soon drys things.

Thanks Mickeyblue

What did you take with you? Did you have to carry your luggage about much??
I have to admit I prefer suitcases because as you said you can keep things more tidy and usually means I dont have to iron things when I arrive - which suits me perfectly.
I just got my suitcase last year so it seems stupid to go and buy a backpack.

Re: Backpack or suitcase??

Hi again,

I guess how much carrying you will do will depend on the tour but on the Nile Safari I used a daypack for water, camera etc and then my bigger bag I left at the hotel or on the Amy. So the only really carrying was between the hotel/boat and the coach when we were moving on - not great distances. Obviously I can't speak for other tours.

As for what I took the answer is too many clothes! Its so hot it would have been really easy to hand wash them and then take a travel clothes line or something. I wish I'd had one of those water bottle holders that keep 1.5l bottles of water cool and can hang off your shoulder - you'll be drinking it too often to keep it in your day pack. Otherwise just usual holiday stuff. Anyway enjoy your holiday - if you want anything else feel free to email - I think you can do that somehow with this thing? Mike.
