I did the BTP tour in late may of this year. We spent 1 and 1/2 days at Sharks bay on the red sea (before starting the desert trek) and snorkeled for most of it, the reef runs right along the shore in front of the resort and there was lot's to see. Even an octopus! At that time the water temp was lovely and the air temp very hot so the time spent in the sea was a welcome respite. I could snorkel about an hour before starting to feel chilled. I don't know for certain about march but I expect the water temp doesn't change that much.
