I'm booked on the Beyond the Pyramids tour for July 28-August12. Can anyone tell me just how bad the heat is going to be this time of year? Anyone else on this trip?

Great to hear that you are coming over, you will have a ball !

In Egypt, the temperature is a bit high in Summer during the day time. It gets more hot when you travel to Upper Egypt but the Nile helps in cooling it down.As long as you are near to the River or near to the beach, you do not have to worry. The temperature usually vary from 32c till 40c at that time of the year.

You will just need to drink lots of water everyday, put sunscreen and a hat if you are walking in the day time and follow your tour leader instructions.

I did the BTP tour in June 2000 (apparently Egypts hottest month) and it was VERY hot. When visiting the Karnak temple in Luxor our group spent most of the time running from one shadow to the next!!

The major problem was while sleeping. In the hotels it is an absolute necessity to keep the air-con units (usually noisy but effective) running or you will wake up sweating. The felucca was harder: It is warm when you go to bed, cold on the river late at night and hot in the morning. I had to change from sleep-sheet to sleeping bag and back again to remain comfortable.

Mohammed's advice about water and sunscreen is bang on. Just remember to buy water at street stalls or garages as opposed to hotels and tourist traps (it doubles in price at least). I also found that lightweight trousers to keep the sun off my legs were useful while outside.

BTP is a great tour - I had the privilige of seeing Mohammed and Ahmed (our guide) cut up the dancefloor in a Hurghada nightclub - some things you never forget!!! You will have a ball.
