Hi All,
Lonely Planet suggested bringing your own general medication like Panadol, Sudafed (for allergy and sinus), Immodium (for tummy pain). Does anyone know if the Egyptian and Jordanian airport officers are particular with these? Do we need doctor's certificate for them? Or is it better to get them once you reach Egypt and Jordan?
And, the ImTrav booklet suggested getting a Yellow Fever or vaccination certificate, is this necessary?
I hope someone can help.
Thanks, Jenny

Re: Bringing medication to Egypt & Jordan
Hi Jenny,
My partner and I take a wide range of both prescription and over the counter medications and have had no problems in either Jordan or Egypt. We make sure we have copies of prescriptions for the prescription medications and the others are fine.
If you are coming from Australia and your over the counter medications had codeine or pseduoephedrine in them they MIGHT confiscate them. "Strong" medciations like Panadeine (available in Australia with codeine in them) will have caffeine in the local versions as codeine is prescription only. I'm not sure about Sudafed with pseudoephedrine though.
About Yellow Fever, I would consult your doctor and base your decision on her/his advice.
Hope this helps,
Russell
Re: Bringing medication to Egypt & Jordan
Hi Jennys.
Check on the travel doctor's webpage then go to your local doctor. You don't need to get the Yellow Fever jab, or atleast that is what TD and my doctor told me.
Just make sure you get jabbed at least 6 weeks before you go.
PS. A lot of the relevant vaccinations for Jordan and Egypt we have already.
PPS. When are you going? I am doing 6 weeks over Christmas and 4 tours travelling from Syria to Egypt.
Re: Bringing medication to Egypt & Jordan
Russell, thanks for that very informative explanation of dos and donts for medication- that's really helpful.
Tae, we're going on Egypt and Jordan Caravan leaving 27/11/05. Depending on when your tour starts, we may meet in Jordan? Tks for your explanation on vaccination too.
