I look for a reliable and reasonable jeweller in Cairo. Our family member asking us to bring back personalized white gold cartouche. Anybody could recommend a place in Cairo, or any stop in the (JOE) Jewels of Egypt Tour.
Any advice how to shop for it, what we should look for, what price range they are etc.
Thank you

Re: Cartouche jeweller in Cairo
Hello Marta & Harold,
Im not certain if you can get white gold in Egypt, but hope this helps.
I can recommend Mohamed EL Saka, who has a store in Khan El Khalili & the El Safa Bazaar in Luxor. I think most ImTrav tours are given info on the El Safa Bazaar. Their items are of very high quality & prices are good!! I have bought from both these stores & have been very happy with the jewellery!!
They are sold by weight. I think the main thing is to buy one you really like............you will see many, many designs!!
All the best in your travels, wish I were going too

Re: Cartouche jeweller in Cairo
Dear Debbie,
Thank you for the info, I can see we will have a challenge with this cartouche. My daughter-in-law wants it in white gold, maybe we should settle for silver. I wouldn't even know if I buy really gold or not. There is any other gift item you could recommend.
We leave next week on the 27th. of September. I just set up a hotmail address. What is your experience, can you find internet caf
Re: Cartouche jeweller in Cairo
Hello Marta,
If you buy from a reputable shop, then you should get what you pay for. Both the stores I mentioned have very good items for sale, so no problems there. You may be able to get white gold, its just that I have never noticed it, maybe some one else can help there?? I have bought HEAPS of beautiful sliver in Egypt. In fact brought back a wonderful silver cartouche with the 'glyphs in gold form the store in the Khan........it is just a beautiful piece. I brought back for a friend worried that she wouldnt like it....but she loves it!!
My other things I love to buy are genie perfume bottles & perfume...I kid you not. I have brought back some divine perfume from Egypt. I also like to buy tshirts with peoples names in 'glyphs. My first ones I bought are now well over 8 years old & wash like rags, but still look nice....the cotton is just so comfy to wear!!
You will find internet cafes all over Egypt, so no problems there. The tour leaders will usually head you in the right direction to the nearest ones to your Hotel. Internet use is quite chepa now days, compared to when I first travelled to Egypt.
Yes have had the surgery, was off work for almost 2 months.....lived off my savings!! So unless I get a good tax refund, there'll be no trip to Egypt for me this year!! But at least the pain is gone, the only problem is that I now have referred pain to my hip, so now we start another saga!!! Cant win.......but thanks for asking, means alot!!
Take care & enjoy your holiday.....you're having it for me too....remember???? Ha!! See you........Debbie
Re: Cartouche jeweller in Cairo
Hi Harold,
I just returned from Egypt and Jordan Caravan. I bought my cartouches from a large jewelry store in Cairo and they and white gold. The cartouches varied in price depending on size. If you want any more info email me.

Re: Cartouche jeweller in Cairo
Hi Harold,
Having just returned from the Egypt & Jordan Caravan and having brought cartouches myself at the Government Store as suggested from our tour leader. As it is a set price at the government store and they actually weigh the gold for you.
Best of all you don't have to haggle, and the prices were comparable with jewellry stores. I also had peace of mind that I was purchasing the real thing.
