A few years ago when we were in Hurghada on the Nile Valley tour we came across a fantastic carving of Anubis - approx 1.5 m high.
We are on our way for the same tour (highly recommended)in February '05 and were wondering if anyone has any experiences/ideas/thoughts on getting something like that home to Australia. Any help greatly appreciated. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Re: Carvings (to bring home) from Egypt
Hello Terry,
When I flew home earlier this year I brought home a native saddle. I got another bag & packed the saddle & all it's trimmings in the one bag. I was travelling with Emirates & they weren't concerned about the extra luggage, as long as the combination didn't go over a certain weight.
However you will have to declare it when coming back into Australia & I would think it would have to be gamma irradiated (costs approx $60A). You can pay for this as you come through, just fill out all the paper work, pay the fee & it should be posted (very well packed) within a reasonable time.
Hope this helps, have a wonderful time! All the best.........Debbie.![[Wink]](wink.gif)

And yes...we will have a wonderful time!
By the way - which Kangaroo Flat are you at?
Best Regards,
Terry
Re: Carvings (to bring home) from Egypt
Hi Terry,
Glad I could help you. I'm Kangaroo Flat Vic, actually live in the area known as Ravenswood but there's nothing here but a Pub!! All our mail goes to KF, which is really a suburb of Bendigo now days. I used to know Parkes fairly well as my brother had a property in the Gurley/Bellata region, between Narrabri & Moree. He's up in Qld now so if I travel up I fly rather than drive & so haven't been through your region in a long time, which is a shame because it's a pretty area.
If I were you I would try to check into your return flight as early as possible, that way they aren't going to be as concerned about extra weight/luggage. If you could be there waiting as they open the check in would be a good idea....that's what I did!!
I wish you were closer as I would love to send a parcel over to an Egyptian family who are expecting a baby soon. Just baby clothes & things. But you're too far away!! Oh well it will just have to keep until I see them in November next year.....yay!!
I do hope you have the best time & it makes me feel as though I'm having a little holiday too when I have helped you just that tiny bit. Gives me an Egypt fix!! If I can help in any other way just drop me a line........Debbie.
