Hello all,
Just wondering...how tough is the Mt Sinai climb? Would love to do it but concerned over difficulty. Does the tour with Imaginative Traveller take the camel route or the Steps of Repentance?
Thanks,
Claire

Re: Climbing Mt Sinai
Dear Claire
The Mount Sinai climb is well worth the effort. The climb takes roughly between 2 and 3 hours on the way up. The Camel Path is the route that the group takes up. The route is a winding well marked path. The tour leader will walk at the back of the group. There are lots of tea houses on the way to stop and rest at. There are also no shortage of offers for camel rides if you do not feel like walking.
On the way down you can choose to go either back down the Camel Path or down the Steps (3000!!!).
The Sinai climb is optional. If the pool at the hotel is more appealing then you can sleep in and be sunning yourself when the rest of the group returns from the Mountain. However the climb is well worth it and not to be missed.

Thanks James!
I definitely won't be missing it.
Re: Climbing Mt Sinai
Hi Claire
I did the Mt Sinai climb as part of Beyond the Pyramids and managed it fine. It is a very steady uphill climb and then you get stairs at the top. Now believe me when I say I am not a fit person. I was anxious about the climb but was assured that I would have plenty of time to make it to the top for sunrise by my excellent leader Ian. He was right, I just took my time, stopping whenever I needed to even just to try and make out the mountains in the dark! We were the last ones of our group to the top but made it with about 1/2 hour to spare. This had the advantage of me not getting too cold (it gets cold up there, even mid summer) before the sun was rising, unlike everyone else who were wrapped in blankets! I'd say unless you are not very mobile, you can definitely do it and if you start and change your mind you can always get a camel as far as possible as one of the girls did in our tour.
