I'm booked on the felucca journey in July this year and am a bit concerned about what kind of clothing i should take with me (I know, such a girlie thing to worry about!). All of the guides that I have read say that you should keep shoulders and legs covered at all times, yet a lot of the photos, including those in the brochure, show women in vest tops and shorts? I would also be grateful for some advice on what kind of footwear I should be taking?

Re: Clothes in Egypt
Hi Jemma,
Firstly have fun on your trip, you must be so excited!
I just came back from a Jewels of Egypt tour in Feb/Mar. I brought with me, some t-shirts, some long sleeve tops and some long pants, long skirts. I found that I ended up wearing the t-shirts more as they were cooler, and the locals usually have no problem with it, i found that they are able to tell that you are tourists anyway. I found the long pants and skirts really useful as the cotton skirts were cool but covered up your legs. Shoewise I brought some light hiking boots and some flipflops but you can get away with joggers and flipflops, I mainly brought hiking boots as my trip included the Mt Sinai hike.
Mainly, don't stress if you forget anything as you can buy clothes while you're there, i bought some t-shirts, flipflops, etc at the egyptian markets. Above all have fun![[Smile]](smile.gif)
Re: Clothes in Egypt
hey jemma,
when i was in egypt, the girls on the my tour and myself mostly wore t-shirts and sometimes sleeveless vest tops.
the shorts we we did wear went down to the knee, never any higher.
the tour leader we had always advised us what kind of clothes was acceptable for each part of egypt, so we were prepared.
in the more conservative part of egypt, such as upper egypt, u may have to cover up a little more. which is where the shawls we bought from the bazaars came in handy.
as for footwear, i just bought a pair of sneakers and sandals.
hope u have fun in egypt!!![[Smile]](smile.gif)
Re: Clothes in Egypt
Hello Jemma,
The main rule of thumb is no bare shoulders, no plunging neck lines & no bare knees.....this goes for men too, you will generally never see an Egyptian male with bare legs. Of course the Red Sea area is a different story as anything seems to go there!!! So pack your 'kini if the Red Sea is part of your tour.
T'shirts are fine, as are short & long sleeves blouses. 3/4 length pants & long shorts are both ok.
Yes you will always see someone dressed in unsuitable clothing. But these people risk being spat at by the locals......something I'd rather avoid!!
Hope you have a wonderfual tour, wish I could join you
Kind regards........Debbie.
Re: Clothes in Egypt
Hey Jemma,
I went on the felucca as part of one of he tours i went on...
It is sooooo relaxing, peaceful and amazing and I want to go back.
In terms of clothing, well on the felucca, it is pretty much your own space, the ladies on the felucca wore their strap tops and shorts and it as fine.
However when you go back into places where there are locals (ie anywhere off the felucca!) its best to keepo ur shoulders and legs covered as a laydee
Have fun! Can i come? i loved egypt.
