I am thinking of taking the Egypt & Jordan Caravan tour in January 09 and was wondering what the weather will be like then. I have heard it's cold in Jordan then and Egypt isn't too warm either. What would the cruise on the Nile be like then?
Also are there many people that book the tour for that time or I am better to wait until March/April.
I like to go in January/February to escape the cold Saskatchewan winter!
Thanks
Laurie

Re: Egypt & Jordan Caravan
Hello Laurie,
Thanks for the email and apologies in getting back to you.
The weather in Egypt and Jordan around January time is typically around the 20 degrees centigrade mark and can get down to 8 degrees in the evenings. There are a number of good websites out there with Egyptian climate. The best that I could find was the following:-

We find that we do get a lot of bookings made for the Winter months to get away from our evil Winters. Generally the dates are slightly more booked up in April/May because it is hotter in Egypt/Jordan around then.
I hope that this helps and just let me know if you would like to check numbers on any given departure.
Kind Regards
Re: Egypt & Jordan Caravan
Thanks Chris. Those temperatures sound good to me. I would probably be booking the January 19th departure but I know it's too early for anyone to have booked yet - I will check in a few months!!!

Re: Egypt & Jordan Caravan
I was in Jordan and Egypt from late December till the end of January a couple of years back. Jordan has what they call the 40 days of cold or something. It was so cold that I would layer my tush off - and strip off layers as the day progressed - then put them back on in the afternoon. Also, the night at Wadi Rum was freezing - I actually thought I would die and tried to break into the luggage van at around 1.30am in the morning to get my wetsuit out. My tours did not require a sleeping bag, but if you have light one that takes up no space - take it. My room mate had one, and she slept in hers in the hotels and I used all the blankets. Oh yeah, I saw snow two times.
I have to say though, Southern Egypt in mid and late January was incredible - not sweltering at all - you had a sheen, but not sweating - LOVED IT! Oh yeah - I have photos of the pyramids with no people in them!
Re: Egypt & Jordan Caravan
Thanks taeinoz! I will take layers with me if I go. Not sure I am thrilled about the snow in Jordan - I am trying to escape that but I like the idea of not as many tourists in Egypt.
I am interested to know - what five tours have you taken with Imaginative - and what ones were your favourites? So far I've just done North India highlights. I did Peru with another adventure company that was awesome too but shall remain nameless here.
The next one I want to do is the Nepal Panorama but I need to get into better shape for the trekking and I don't want to go in January.
Thanks again.
Laurie
Re: Egypt & Jordan Caravan
Any time Maccafan - not sure if you would know this, but Macca in Australian is slang for McDonalds.
Tours I have done are:
Middle East Highlights (Syria, Jordan and Egypt - to me Syria was 100000 times better than Jordan - though Petra is a given)
Tracks of the Pharoah (something like that doesn't exist any more - which was doing the main tourist locations plus a lot of the out of the way places)
Siwa Oasis (Best one in Eygpt)
Mongolian Vistas (OMG Amazing!! I am going back next year to do the 4 week trip (inclusive of Nadaam) I can't rate this highly enough.
Cambodia Discovery (Also fantastic but a bit fast - 2 weeks wasn't enough when you factor in the travel time)
I am heading back to Cambodia at midyear to see the things I missed. I am also heading back to Egypt this Christmas.
Have a brilliant time.
PS. Can't remember my log in so this is from my holiday login.
