Hi,
We are going on Egypt and Jordan Caravan on 4 Nov 2007 and have a question regarding Abu Simbel. We have a day in Aswan that has this as an option, and when I was reading in the trip dossier, there are two ways of getting there:by bus or airplane. Which option is better? I noticed that if you go by bus you are at the temple longer. Is it worth paying more and flying there?

Re: Egypt and Jordan Caravan

Hi Katie Lou,

Thanks for your question.

Both options have their merits and their downsides. Flying gets you there quicker but gives you less time at the site and costs more. Travelling by bus takes a lot longer but gives you more time at the site, can be arranged locally and costs a lot less.

The vast majority of people travel by bus and have a little kip on the way there. The journey is around 3 hours I believe. I guess if you have the budget or are an impatient person then flying is a good alternative!

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Brendan

Everyone on our tour did the bus...it's an early wake up call, but you can sleep on the way there.

Everyone on our tour also went on the bus. It was a bit I didn't enjoy too much as I don't travel well early in the morning but I absolutely loved looking at the desert landscape at dawn and wouldn't have missed it by sleeping.

It is a really amazing place.

Have a great time.

Re: Egypt and Jordan Caravan

Just got back from Egypt and Jordan
Caravan a few days ago. AMAZING trip. Be prepared to sacrifice a little sleep but it is worth it!! Everyone on our tour also chose the bus to Abu Simbel. They are comfy coaches. The Sinai climb is also a very early start (2:15am for us with the summer sunrise). I also recommend the Western Desert. We went out for the week before the Caravan - camping under the brilliant stars with friendly little desert fox sniffing at your feet - didnt sleep much then either! :^)It was too beautiful to miss a moment.
