I'm booked to go with Imaginative Traveller on the Sailtrek & Sinai tour soon, I've heard you can get Visas at Cairo airport and it's cheaper than in London.
Is this true?

Re: Egypt Visas
Hi Craig,
If you are a UK passport holder you can obtain a visa on arrival in Cairo. The cost is approx 10.00Stg.

Re: Egypt Visas
Thanks very much, does that apply for Australian passport holders as well?
Re: Egypt Visas
Craig,
Aussie passport holders can get visas on arrival too.
I'm not sure of the cost, but it is about the same.

Re: Egypt Visas
Hi
It is possible for many nationalities to purchase an emergency visa upon arrival at Cairo airport, Port Said and Alexandria. For you own peace of mind, however, the Egyptian Authorities and The Imaginative Traveller recommend that you obtain your visa before you depart for Egypt, as these regulations may change at any time without prior notice.
Visas cannot be purchased upon arrival at the Rafah border post between Israel and Egypt. Visas obtained at the Taba border (with Israel) are valid for entry into the Sinai only.
Good luck

Re: Egypt Visas
I have been to Egypt on many trips and see no reason why I should buy a visa before I travel. The cost is almost double. I guess you have to say to get one before we go. But for european and Australia/New Zealanders the Egyptian embassy suggests you get one on arrival.
I would suggest everyone leaving Australia follow the advice of the embassy and buy one on arrival.

Re: Egypt Visas
Hi Dave,
Well yes we are running a travel company and it is in our best interests to suggest that all our clients purchase a visa before arrival. But we do appreciate the cost difference to our cleints and know well how easy it is to obtain a visa on arrival in Cairo. While we must give the company line to such answers we will also tell you the facts, which have been posted above.
I do hope the trips to Egypt was with us!! and that you had a great journey.

Re: Egypt Visas
Hi Dave
It is true that a visa on arrival might be a bit cheaper and usually little hassel. However as the Egyptian Authorities classify these as "emergency visas" we as a travel company would be failing in our duty if we recommended that travellers rely on obtaining one at the border (as I mentioned before they are not available at ALL borders anyway).
If a traveller has booked a trip, paid their hard earned money and taken time out of their life to travel, the best advice we can give is GET YOUR VISA IN ADVANCE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. This way you have minimised the risk of being refused entry.
Travellers are occasionally refused entry to countries. I can think of one very upset client of ours just last year who ignored our advice and mistakenly thought she could get a visa on arrival. There was no refund on her tour and she could not claim on her insurance.

Re: Egypt Visas
I have just returned from Egypt, and bought my visa on arrival in Cairo - just a warning that if you do take this option, make sure you have any currency other than Egyptian - they will not accept it for purchase of the visa - USD or Sterling is best, but they would take anything else!
Re: Egypt Visas
I don't know if my reply yesterday has disappeared from technical issues or was forcibly removed, so I will repost - if you decide to get your visa on arrival in cairo, make sure you have currency other than egyptian pounds as they will not accept them in payment for the visa (about
