Hi,

My boyfriend and I are doing the Sailtrek and Sinai tour in April. Could someone help me with information regarding bedding and bed clothing for the felluca cruise? Will it be hot or cold at night? and is it best to wear normal day clothes at night?
Thank you

Jennifer

Re: Felluca cruise bedding

I went in December, and apparently it was very cold, and was not that bad--we just kept our sleeping bags closer together in the middle of the night. I assume April is much warmer. Bring a light sleeping bag as instructed in your packing materials. Sleep in whatever you're comfortable with--you're going to be pretty casual with the people on your boat. Any changing you need to do that you don't want to be public needs to be in a sleeping bag or under a blanket. I think most people slept in T-shirts or shorts. You tend to stay in the same cloths.
If you want to get clean--jump in the Nile--that's about it.
Don't forget to bring some of that waterless hand sanitizer--that comes in VERY handy on toilet stops and before meals as there's no real way to wash up.
Enjoy. This is a lot of fun, or can be.

Thank you Shareen. That was helpful, however I am very worried about my boyfriends snoring problem. I guess I will have to ask the tour guide when I get there, to solve that problem, MEN!

Hi Jennifer,

In April it will be cool at night but certainly not cold, like a Western European night at the height of summer. The further South you travel in Egypt the hotter the daytime temperatures become and so do the nights.

I always find that it helps you to sleep if you change into designated "sleeping clothes" like trackie bottoms and a hooded top. You can always chop and change if you feel to hot/cold.

You'll need to bring your own sleeping bag and towel as stated in your pre-departure information, as we don't provide these for you. As Shareen said if want some privacy on a Felucca, your sleeping bag is the last refuge.

I can't do much about the snoring, have you tried sowing half a tennis ball into his jim-jams. It's supposed to work but I don't know how (probably by keeping him awake all night.).

Hey Jennifer. Whoops. Sorry (for you!) about the snoring. We had some snorers, and I am a very light sleeper. I used the poking method--poke until they stopped. Other than that, your boyfriend might be taking unscheduled night dips in the Nile, with help! Good luck. I can't imagine it could be any worse than calling for Allah all night over loudspeakers (Ramadan).

Thanks Chis and Shareen for your help. That was a great suggestion for conbating snoring. I will definatly tell him that. When it comes to April, I will remind him to pack his swimming shorts.

Hi there,
as you can see from the other replies - you'll have no problems. I went last september and it rates up there with the best thing I've ever done. Days were VERY hot but nights were pretty cool - especially just before dawn. You generally stay in the same clothes for whole cruise and jump in the river for a bath. Don't believe anyone who says the Nile water isn't safe to swim in. I took every opportunity to dive in. Re: sleeping - A pair of waxed earplugs works wonders...

Re: Felluca cruise bedding

Hey there,

I just got back from the Beyond the Pyramids tour which included the felluca cruise. I lived in my hawian shirt and shorts for three days and the weather was fine 2 weeks ago. The temp at night is fine, if you have a good sleeping bag then you will be ok. The crew put up wind gaurds at night so you are also pretty sheltered. I was even rudely accused of snoring one night, so had to spend a night on the riverbank after being kicked out of the felluca. So I can even vouch that the side of the nile is comfy and warm. Here are some more helpful hints --
I would definately suggest a 750 or so of spirits to take along as the beer gets warm by the third day. When bartering for firewood with the local farmers, dont go any higher than
