Hi, we will be in Cairo for New Years Eve, which is my husband's birthday before our tours start on 1 Jan. I want to take him somewhere special for dinner. I cannot find names, ph nos or websites for floating restaurants. Does any one know any? Do you just ring and book?
Many thanks.

Re: floating restaurants
Hello Annette,
This is a wonderful treat!! I enjoyed a wonderful night cruising along the Nile, watching the lights of Cairo float by....enjoying a very tasty meal & being entertained by belly & sufi dancers. It was a night to remember forever!!
I believe you can just turn up..... the boats dock near the Shepherds Hotel. But you may prefer to book your tickets. This may be possible through your Hotel or perhaps Imtrav can assist here?
There is also the Aswan Moon restaurant, sited at Aswan. Doesn't sail along, but floats close to the banks & is stationary. The food is delish!!
Hope this helps alittle. Have a wonderful holiday, as always I wish I were going too! If I can help in any other way please let me know.
Kind regards......Debbie.
Re: floating restaurants
Thanks Debbie for the info. I am going to check out abu as-sid as well although apparently you have to book well in advance. Have you heard of it?
Re: floating restaurants
The Nile Pharaoh Boat is the most popular place to go, they sail twice a night and it costs 75 egyptian pounds for a good dinner of local fare. The show is fun. But there are so many to pick from. Ask imaginative to help out the local office will know all the details.

Re: floating restaurants
Hey Guys,
Thanks for your postings.
There is a wide choice of dinner cruising boats in Cairo, all of which are within walking distance of our hotels, or in the case of the Salma Hotel, as used on our "Traveller" class tours, 10 minutes by taxi.
The information for these is as follows;
Nile Maxim (Rating 4)
Address: In front of the Marriott Hotel in Zamalek, as it is operated by the hotel.
Time of Cruises: 7 30 PM and 9 30 PM and the cruise takes 2 hours more or less
Telephone: 02/7388888
Prices: from 100 to 190 pounds as a minimum charge per person.
The Nile Pharaoh (Rating 4+)
Address: 138 El Nile St. Giza
Time of Cruises: 7 PM and the main is at 8 PM with two boats and the cruise takes 2 hours in the part of the Nile around Giza and Zamalek
Telephone: 57 01 000.
Prices: 75 to 150 pounds per person depending on season
Nile Crystal (Rating 3)
Address: In the beginning of the Maadi Road of Kornish El Nile
Time of Cruises: 8-9 PM with a more than 2 hours cruise
Telephone: 02/3190009
Prices From: 65 to 100 pounds average per person
Scarabee Boat (Rating 3)
Address: in front of the Shepheard Hotel on Kornish El Nile. Garden City
Time of Cruises: 8 and 10 30 PM around 2 hours cruise but you have to check for their schedule
Telephone: 02/3543199
Price: 90 - 120 pounds per person
Please note that booking with a local travel agent will double the cost per person, as opposed to at Imaginative Traveller's local office or with your tour leader where you will be sure to pay the correct price.
I hope this helps and please do not hesitate in making another post or contacting me at online@imtrav.net should you require further assistance.
Kind Regards,
Robert
