I've recently obtained this statement from ABTA. It seems to be mostly about food stuffs but does anyone know if the 'restrictions on travel' (last paragraph) are likely to affect entry to Egypt?
8/3/01 issued by ABTA
We are currently closely monitoring the development of Foot and Mouth disease in the UK and how this may effect the travel industry.
The UK Government has not applied any restrictions to foreign travel. MAFF has however banned the export of foodstuffs from the UK which means that travellers should not take any food with them, especially meat and diary products, when they travel overseas. We strongly suggest that you advise your clients that there is a ban in place and they should not attempt to take produce with them. If they do, it will most likely be confiscated at the port/airport or on arrival at their destination.
Individual countries may also decide to impose restrictions on visitors travelling from the UK. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is presently advising travellers to contact the individual embassies of the countries that they are travelling to if they have any concerns.

Re: foot and mouth and travel
Hi Pam,
The following is the latest Foreign Office advice regarding Foot & Mouth Disease:
FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE
British nationals are not being prevented from travelling overseas since the outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in the United Kingdom. However, travellers may have raw or processed meat products confiscated at Customs in some countries. They may also have to have their clothing disinfected if they have recently visited farms in the United Kingdom.
You can find this advice and links to all the countries we visit at the following address:
