Dear Imtrav,
On my arrival day in Cairo I would very much like to visit Heliopolis. Not the modern suburb which is located near the airport but the ancient site of Heliopolis as it has one of the oldest obelisks in Egypt. Does anyone have any info as to how I could go about organising this?
Many thanks,
Kelly.

Re: Help anyone?
Hello Kelly,
The Obelisk you wish to see is located near the airport, in an area known as Al Mataria.
If you go to www.touregypt.net/featurestories/on.htm you will find quite alot of info on it!!
I have been to Egypt lots of times & have wandered around that area, but still have not visited that obelisk. If you manage to make a trip there would you please send me some pics.........please???
Perhaps you could organise to be taken to it when you are collected at the airport by an ImTrav rep???? Just a thought!!
Hope this helps! All the best............Debbie
Re: Help anyone?
Hello Kelly,
As Debbie has said, the best way to organise to see the obleisk is to ask the tour leader when you arrive on day 1.
Have a great time!
Kate
Re: Help anyone?
Just some more to add about that. Taxis in Cairo are cheap and plentiful, but sometimes language and bargaining can be a bit interesting.
It'll be easy to get a taxi to see the oblisk if you get someone to write down the name and its address in arabic. The reception desk at the hotel should be able to do that for you. Also get a card with the hotel name and address in arabic so you can safely get back again!![[Cool]](cool.gif)
