Hi,
Here we go! I reserved for the trip JEWEL OF EGYPT on may 17th.I'm from Montréal, (Québec) and I was wondering if anybody will travel on this trip, it will be nice to talk with an other traveller before the departure because I will travel alone on this tour. I would like to know if somebody has information about the apropriate way to dress in Egypt?
Thanks
Mélanie

Hello Melanie,
I am not lucky enough to be travelling with you. However I have enjoyed being a member of this tour in the past. It was a truly wonderful experience!
Please do not be concerned about travelling solo, you will soon make friends with other group members & your Tour Leader will ensure that you are OK.
In regards to clothing, the rule of thumb is to always have your shoulders & knees covered & no plunging necklines. This goes for guys too, believe it or not! You will never see a Egyptian male with bare legs or upper body, out in public.
It will be fairly warm by the time you are travelling there, so loose Tshirts would be quite good & long shorts or Capri's.
Yes, you will always see women somewhere on your travels through Egypt, that are very badly dressed, with way too much skin exposed. However they are at risk of unwanted attention from Egyptian males & worse, in my opinion, being spat at by the Egyptian women folk.
Remember Egypt is a Muslim country & to wander about with heaps of skin exposed, is pretty much like saying you are cheap & easy! Plus we are the visitors, so we should observe all local laws & customs.
A sturdy, reliable pair of shoes is a good idea, you may also like to bring along a strong pair of sandals. I personally do not like wearing sandals out & about in Egypt, but it's nice to have something else to slip your feet into at your Hotel or onboard Melodie!
Whilst onboard Melodie, you are able to wear your bikini or tiny shorts, no problem there, but out in public, the least amount of skin exposure the better.
Now to focus on the good parts of your visit! Egypt is an amazing country, with glaring differences between the rich & the poor. However even the poorest of the poor, is PROUD to be an Egyptian!! The history of this country is truly amazing & I suggest you buy yourself a copy of Lonely Planet or something similar & read up on the places that you will be visiting with your group. You may find that there are sites not included with your tour, that you would like to see for yourself. This is easy to arrange with your tour leader & please do not be afraid to ask him/her about any of the sites you may wish to visit. They will do their very best to assist you. One site I urge you to visit is Abu Simbel. The artwork there is amongst the best in the country, I love visiting that site....amongst many others!
If there is anything else I can help you with, please drop me a line. Remember to pack an open heart & mind & your sense of humour! Kindest regards.......Debbie
Mafesh Mushkelah!!!
JEWEL OF EGYPT
We all take Debbie's comments to heart as she has been there several times. Lucky gal!
As a tourist to Egypt she is totally correct -- we ensured that we were basically covered from head to toe (we even bought tops in Egypt to extent below our private areas) so we weren't offending! But hey, we had our toes nails painted bright red and the locals loved it!
All trips with ImTrav are fantastic. Listen to your Tour Director and totalling enjoy the experience. It is a great country -- the temples are amazing. The trips of M/V Melodie fantastic.
Enjoy your travels.
