I'm a solo female traveller going on the jewels of egypt tour on this date. Was just wondering if there is anyone else here going at the same time? Or would like to talk to anyone who has been and what to expect. I am so excited but everyone else here in the UK is worried about me going alone.

Re: Jewels Of Egypt - 19 February 2006
Hello Rb,
I enjoyed the Jewels of Egypt tour back in December 2003 & had a wonderful time. I'm not certain of what changes may have been made to the tour since then apart from the new cruise boat Melodi. The cruise boat was little Amy when I was on this tour. I have heard nothing but praise about Melodi even since her first cruise with Imtrav.
I have travelled solo on both my holidays in Egypt. I'm a blonde & back then had a long flowing mane of fair hair. The Egyptians loved it! Don't know how they'll feel about my short cropped hair!!
The Jewels of Egypt is an excellent tour with plenty of time to join in with the group & other tiem to do your own thing. There is no pressure but on you to join in at all times. It is very planned & you have very well educated tour leaders with you 24/7. Your tour leader will do his or her best to ensure you have a wonderful time & will try to answer any query you have. So just relax & prepare yourself for the holiday of a lifetime. Just remember to pack an open mind & heart!!
Wish I could join you!! Kind regards....Debbie.

I havn't done Jewels of Egypt but my combination of tours last Xmas seems to pretty well cover your itinerary. You will certainly see a lot in a short period of time. In my experience, the Nile section of the tour will be less bewildering and more rewarding if you have a rough knowledge of Phaoronic history, relgious beliefs and customsbefore you arrive and not rely on picking it up as you go. Certainly more so than any other place I've been. At no time did i feel in any way unsafe, even in Cairo.Even with the current demonstrations,I can'tsee that you will be noticeably affected. Imtrav are sophisticated observers of the local scene, and your safety will be uppermost. Though you are travelling alone, you can be assured that the odds favor other females on the tour. ( I just analyzed theImtrav groups I've been with..6 groups 62 travellers 11 couples 17single men 23 single females).Have you additional time in cairo. In your situation I would recommend after the tour. There is still plenty to see.
Enjoy Egypt it is superb

Thanks Debbie and Wayne,
Debbie - I have blonde hair too except mine's more a dark blonde now. Thanks for the comments, its made me feel a lot better about going.
Wayne - I have read up on quite a few different books about egypt including the usual tourist guides (ie. lonely planet) and I read a good one that explains about life at the time of the pharoahs and the pyramids, went into big detail of daily life. I also read some interesting ones about how the pyramids were built and what they might have been built for. I've also been looking up on the web as well. I found http://www.ask-aladdin.com really useful, he is an egyptologist probably like the guides we will get on our tour.
And yes I do have the afternoon after the egyptian museum and the next morning free so I'm planning to see some of Saqqara and Dahshour in that spare time before I head back home.
By the way its always nice to see another person from Brisvegas! I may be living in Manchester at the moment but I'm always a Brisbanite at heart.
